Carnivorous plant is a plant capable of capturing and collecting the bodies of victims needed components. The victims are mainly insects and crustaceans, but also small reptiles, amphibians and animals. They are carrying out the plants photosynthesis, but growing on soils poor in nitrogen and other elements needed for proper development. To capture and digest them are specially adapted leaves. They may take the form of, inter alia, jugs, snap traps, limes.

Sarracenia

Description

Sarracenia is carnivorous plants are family Sarracenia, including dozens of species. There are eight "pure" species of Sarracenia (the rest are hybrids.) It is grown in greenhouses or botanical gardens or in homes as potted plants, or decorative terrariums. Some species may be successfully reared in gardens in Poland. Are the most resistant hybrids S.purpurea eg S. x Catesbaei.

Occur in the swamps in the eastern part of North America.

Disign

The leaves can reach up to 100cm in length (except S.flava, which sometimes leaves reach up to 120cm). They are funnel-shaped. Flowers large, yellow, white, green or red with a characteristic, umbrella appearance.
