Carnivorous plant is a plant capable of capturing and collecting the bodies of victims needed components. Venus Flytrap is the sole representative of the type of Dionaea. The Latin name comes from the name of the mother of Aphrodite - Dione. By contrast, the English name of: Venus Fly Trap (spotted Venus) refers to the name in Roman mythology, Aphrodite. Carnivorous plant is most interesting, not only because that its appearance is impressive, but also the way of acquiring food. When an insect touches a leaf - trap, trap quickly closes, and the victim is trapped in the middle. This is a small plant, which forms rosettes about the size of the mundane to 20 cm. Is a perennial crop. It is not an easy crop to grow, but its attractiveness makes it worthwhile to put some effort to have it on your windowsill.

History

Venus Flytrap was discovered in 1759 by the Governor of North Carolina, however, has been named and described 9 years later by John Ellis. In the nineteenth century, many researchers interested in the plant, among others. K. Darwin, who first introduced the reactions of plants on the chemical stimulus. Unfortunately, most of its studies, and work has been published and gone.

Environment

Venus Flytrap in the U.S. there is a small area about 150 km around the town of Wilmington, North and South Carolina. Recently also found Position the plant in the north-western part of Florida. It grows on sandy ground - peat, acidic (pH 3-5), wet and poor in nutrients. It lives in warm and humid climates, where summer temperatures of around 30 * C, while in winter rarely fall below 5 * C.
